We know plain hotels in busy districts aren’t what you need for a relaxing stay. The Inn on Gitche Gumee provides guests unique, northwood themed lodgings located right on beautiful, scenic highway 61.
We send an email out with instructions to ensure you know how to access your room.
We’re thrilled to welcome your well-behaved dogs! Your furry friends can join for just $25 per night, per pet. We just ask that you keep an eye on your pup’s behaviour—if they’re too noisy, rowdy, or cause damage, we may need to ask you to leave without a refund. To keep our rooms comfy for everyone, please keep dogs off the furniture.
We do not have a restaurant on site, but can make recommendations of our favorite local spots!
Every room has a mini fridge and a microwave. Our suites will have a kitchenette stove.

We encourage our guests to check out nearby spots for easier access to the water such as the McQuade Harbor (3 minutes away) or the Kitchi Gammi Park (6 minutes away), both conveniently on scenic highway 61!
Both! Although technically still inside the Duluth city limits, The Inn on Gitche Gumee is located on the North Shore off scenic highway 61. It provides easy access with the feeling of being away from the hustle and bustle of busier tourist locations.
As a smaller, family owned property this is difficult for us to accommodate (especially in the busy season), as we don’t have the same amount of cleaners as the big box hotels.
Unfortunately, our rooms are set up to accommodate 3 adults and limit it as such, so we don’t overcrowd the Inn. If you have a larger group you’d like to accommodate, we encourage you to book our 3 Bears Cottage or add an additional room.
72+ hour notice is a full refund. 48+ hour notice pays for one full, single night of their stay. Anything less than a 48 hour notice is required to pay for the duration of their stay.
A card is required to make a reservation at the time of booking. If a deposit is not made, the room is not reserved. The remainder of the balance is due before checkout.
We will send an email with instructions for check out – but rest assured, it’s easy and we don’t expect you to do any laundry 😉 Our cleaners always greatly appreciate if dishes are washed and sheets/towels are put into the bathtub, but this is not required and we do not charge any cleaning fees.
